This is the readme.txt file for FractalVision for Windows version 1.04. Please read this file for complete installation instructions and important information not contained in the printed book or on-line help. This is a fully working program--it is not crippled in any way. This shareware evaluation copy may be freely distributed, but if you continue using the program for any reason, you are legally required to purchase a registered copy from Cedar Software. You can choose from three registration options: 1. For $29, you will get a 3.5" or 5.25" disk with the latest registered version, a 56-page illustrated (paper) manual, over 200 example fractal templates explained in the manual, and a CD-ROM with hundreds of fractal images, 40 fractal animations (including many in ultra-realistic 3D), 14 short fractal generation programs with C and C++ source code, and shareware evaluation copies of several graphics utilities. 2. For $44, you get all the above, with a 600-page book about the history, science, math, art, philosophy behind fractal geometry and chaos theory. The book includes 16 pages of color illustrations, including several 3D stereoscopic pairs. 3. Add $59 to either of the above options for fully commented C++ source code (Borland C++ version 3.1 required). From DOS (not a DOS box) 2. Switch to the drive the install disk is in by typing A: or B: then, 3. Type INSTALL --------------- OR -------------------------- 1. Start windows, if it's not already running. 2. From the file menu, chose Run, 3. Type in b:\setup (or a:\setup if the install disk is the A drive). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you have any trouble, Please print out and fill in the trouble.txt file on this disk. If you have any problems or suggestions let us know. Known quirks; 1. Sometimes the template will disappear, simply press PageUp or right click. 2. When saving files, if you erase the extension Save Template will default to FRT and Save Picture will default to PCX. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you're new to FractalVision, try the tutorial within the on-line help. Many fractal icons are included in the FVW.EXE program. To choose which icon appears in your Windows program group, select File/Properties and Change Icon within Program Manager. Note: FractalVision does not add an association for FRT or IFS files. These are both fractal templates. You need to associate these files yourself. To make an association so FractalVision will load files that you double click on inside file manager; 1. Start file manager 2. Highlight a file with an .IFS or .FRT extension 3. Click on File or alt F 4. Click on Associate 5. Click on Fractal Vision or Type in c:\fvwin\fvw.exe (or what ever path you used) 6. Click on ok Repeat steps 1 through 6 for other file types like GIF PCX and BMP that you want to double click on and have FractalVision load up.
